Do your feet enjoy the best possible health? They are, after all, a fundamental and foundational part of our overall health and wellness.

As we age, the everyday wear and tear on our feet build up causing discomfort. Some foot pain signals an ongoing condition that requires treatment. Other symptoms point to a need for supplemental support in order to relieve your pain. At PediFix, we are aware of the challenges of foot pain. We want you to be well-equipped to enjoy the best years of your life, pain-free, with as much mobility and independence as possible.

Here are the three most commonly observed issues that are encountered by aging feet:

1- Heel Pain/Plantar Fasciitis

Are you experiencing pain in one or both heels? Heel pain can slow you down from enjoying your usual activities. There can be a variety of causes for heel pain, and identifying the source of your discomfort is important to determine the best course of treatment.

Did you know that plantar fasciitis is one of the most prevalent and widespread causes of heel pain? The plantar fascia is a long band of tissue that connects the heel with the toes, designed to absorb the stresses and strains placed on your feet. Sometimes, too much pressure can cause tears in this band, inflammation, and tightening of the plantar fascia. Rest, ice, physical therapy, gentle stretches, over-the-counter anti-inflammatory pain medications, and support devices are among the solutions that can help.

2-Achilles Tendonitis

The Achilles tendon is the largest, strongest, and yet the most vulnerable tendon in the body, connecting the heel of your foot to your calf. It allows you to flex your foot when walking, running, or exercising – it’s very important. Repetitive stress, abrupt and recurring movements, age, and poor blood supply, can trigger the onset of Achilles Tendonitis. Rest, immobilization, icing, anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy, and protection of the injured tendon helps reduce pain and swelling. A tendon rupture could require more serious treatment options, including surgery.

3-Bunions

Do you have a large bump on the lower outside of your big toe? It may be more than just a bump; it may be a bunion. A bunion is a progressive disorder in which the big toe angles inward towards the other toes, causing the joint to stick out. In many cases, bunions run in families; however, tight-fitting shoes with narrow toes like high heels can cause, or worsen, them. Painful bunions can affect your day-to-day functions – making simple daily activities unpleasant.
