This month, we celebrate and recognize women’s health. Physical health and mental health are a part of the conversation. Now is the time to do a self-assessment of your health, which should include your foot health.
The PediFix team has three ways to take action for your foot health this month:
1- Make the appointment – NOW
This is no time to delay. Check in with your foot care team and make appointments. If you are behind schedule on regular appointments, it’s not too late to catch up. For patients who have diabetes, each visit is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Especially if foot ulcers, ingrown toenails, or foot infections are a concern.
• Pick up the phone or schedule online for your convenience
• Keep notes of concerns and questions for your next visit
• Ask friends and family to hold you accountable
2-Tighten up your foot care routine
Have you been forgetting about your feet? They need care, too. If you are on your feet for many hours each day, schedule a foot massage or a pedicure. For the basics, wash, dry, and moisturize your feet each day. This simple hygiene process can provide a good foundation for your foot health. The biggest tip is to look at your feet often and share any changes with your podiatrist.
• Check your feet regularly, daily for diabetics, this makes it easier to spot any changes
• Report new signs of pain or skin changes
• Never share foot hygiene tools
3-Maintain a healthy weight
We discourage you from comparing yourself to others. Instead, listen to your doctor. What is a healthy weight for you? Maintaining a healthy weight helps to reduce your risk of developing conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. It also removes extra pressure from your legs, hips, knees, and feet. Talk to your doctor about ways to manage a healthy lifestyle.
• Follow the guidance of a medical professional
• Start an exercise routine slowly and always stretch
• Talk with a nutritionist about eating habits
We hope you are encouraged this month to put your health first, including your foot health. Check in with your doctor, tighten up your foot care routine, and maintain a healthy weight. There is no reason to achieve these goals alone. Connect with community resources and reach out for help.
